Sonja Martinic - Owner, Head Coach, Prima Donnas,Rockstars,Tribute & Icon

sonja@absoluteacademy.com

Sonja's interest in gymnastics and dance began when she was 3 years old; with Ballet and Jazz. This interest turned to Rhythmic Gymnastics for 10 years and led her to become a provincially/nationally ranked athlete. Once in high school, Sonja was active as a member and coach for the McRoberts Cheer and Dance program. She quickly fell in love with cheerleading, and began competing and coaching with the well-respected Vancouver All-Stars program. Her most noted accomplishment was taking first place with her Sr. Co-Ed team at the NCA Classic in Anaheim, California. Upon graduation from high school, Sonja pursued open cheerleading, competing for TotalSpirit Magic All-Stars and the Vancouver All-Stars Open Heat Team respectively. Over the past 4 years, Sonja has been an active member of the BCCA, acting as a head judge and as co-president for the 2007-2009 seasons. After 18 years as an athlete and coach of dance, gymnastics and cheer, her love for sport inspired her and friend Kristy Powell to create HOT Choreography. She also has choreographed for the film and television industry (Billionairio Gaming agency Ads and the film "Jennifer's Body" starring Meghan Fox).

After much success, growth and a longing to coach again, Sonja’s passion for cheer guided her to embark on a journey with the Vancouver Academy of Cheer. She brought a team of 16 girls with no cheer experience to a level that she could never have dreamt and realized she wanted something even bigger. In 2008 she merged with Jocelyn Lefteruk from Seaside Athletics to create Absolute Academy.

Now, over 2 years later, her vision and dream for creating a well-rounded and successful cheer gym has lead her to new and exciting heights with Absolute! She is now the proud owner of Absolute and looks forward to further developing the talented athletes of the North Shore.

Having been coached by some of Canada and America’s best, combined with her professionalism and enthusiasm, makes her a leader in the sport of cheerleading in our province!

Candice has been with Absolute for over a year and brings a lot of "pizzazz" to our staff! She has been performing both vocally and theatrically for over 16 years. A winner of MIP, Tiger Spirit and MVP awards, Candice was fueled with the desire to continue cheerleading and to be an inspiration to new and upcoming athletes. Her experience with Alberta Cheer Empire and the undefeated McNally high school team, has given Candice the experience and knowledge to take her coaching career to new and exciting heights! After completing a diploma in music, she is now finishing her degree in Music Therapy at Capilano College.
